Nutrient Separating Baffle Box - Hydraulics
Nutrient Separating Baffle Box » Hydraulics
Installing the Nutrient Separating Baffle Box (NSBB) online has little associated head loss. The head through the NSBB is less than that caused by most diversion structures needed for offline installation. The Nutrient Separating Baffle Box needs only 3” of fall between invert in and invert out. The unit can also be installed flat if necessary.
HEAD LOSS CHART
This chart shows examples of head loss at different flow rates dependent upon pipe sizes.
| Pipe Size Diameter | Flow Rate | Head Loss |
|---|---|---|
| 8 inch | 2.1 CFS | 1 foot |
| 12 inch | 4.7 CFS | 1 Foot |
| 18 inch | 10.6 CFS | 1 foot |
| 24 inch | 18.8 CFS | 1 foot |
| 30 inch | 29.5 CFS | 1.1 feet |
| 36 inch | 42.4 CFS | 1.1 feet |
| 42 inch | 57.7 CFS | 1.2 feet |
| 48 inch | 75.4 CFS | 1.2 feet |
| 54 inch | 95.4 CFS | 1.3 feet |
| 60 inch | 117.8 CFS | 1.3 feet |

DETERMINING APPROPRIATE BASKET HEIGHT
Once the Nutrient Separating Baffle Box model has been determined and hydraulic calculations performed, the height of the basket can be established to ensure the capture and retention of gross pollutants (large sediment, organics, and debris and trash) at all flow rates.
