In 2003, the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii hired the state university to evaluate the various brands of curb type catch basin filters. After initial evaluation, the top four filters where chosen for a long term field study. Following are the results of that field study relating to time required to clean and maintain each type of filter. The differences are substantial.

Step 1 - Remove manhole and insert vacuum hose.
Step 2 - Vacuum out basket located directly under the manhole. Easy maintenance makes for happy maintenance crews.
